It was a joyous occasion for the family of Ibrahim when the news of the new born baby circulated. Everyone was happy except Ibrahim, he knew how the whole situation came because he was the author of it but he couldn't reveal to anyone not even Malia.
"My darling, I noticed you're always on your own since we returned from the hospital. What's the matter?" Malia questioned him one evening,
Ibrahim couldn't answer. He desperately wanted to tell his wife what ate deep into the very fibre of his being but he was scared to death of escalating the whole situation. He only held her and smiled warmly,
" My love, nothing is wrong. I'm fine. You worry too much. Rest your mind, It's all good" Ibrahim assured her but of course Malia didn't buy the lie. She knew something was up but didn't want to make a fuss about it.
Night after night, Ibrahim reminisced the event of his daughter's birth and the encounter with the beast. The beast's face etched permanently to his mind like a plague to the extent that some nights he'd stay awake rather than sleep. He slowly started becoming a shadow of himself; he'd spend hours in the restroom trying to call on to Belzeebub but no one would answer.
The day after his daughter's birth, he had walked into the bank to verify if the beast kept to his promise and to his greatest shock, the teller told him he had the sum of 100 million lying in his account. For a moment he thought he heard wrong and requested the teller rephrase what he just heard.
"Sir, your account balance with Styl Bank is a 100 million naira. Do you wish to withdraw or make a deposit?" the teller spoke with eloquence
Ibrahim chuckled nervously, looked round the banking hall as if searching for something. He smiled at the teller again and requested for a withdrawal. He was directed on how to go about withdrawals and thus he did. The days that followed up to the child's naming ceremony, money rained in Ibrahim's house much to Malia's surprise. Ibrahim got her everything she wanted and more including baby items. Gone were the days of grunting about money from Ibrahim, it became history.
The babe was named ZAINAB.
The night after the naming ceremony, a wild wind arose at the unholy hours of 1AM. It kept slamming hard on the window of the nursery till the window finally opened on its own. Black fog filled the room and from it came out the demon Belzeebub. He circulated the cradle where Zainab lay and smiled,
"My beautiful bride, your soul is mine" he said with a thick devilish voice and then, he planted a kiss on Zainab's head. The kiss burned into her skull, becoming invisible to the eye.
Zainab tilted, opened her eyes and it glowed red before she closed it again and slept off. Belzeebub dissolved into the black fog once again and moved from the nursery into the master bedroom where Ibrahim and Malia slept. He watched as the couple slept and smiled with sinister intent as he whispered into Ibrahim's ear
"Remember your covenant. It is bound by your blood and now, that of your daughter's"
Then, he disappeared. Ibrahim jumped up from sleep and looked round the room. He felt something had just left the room.
