you tell yourself that they are good, you tell yourself they care about you, too.

you tell yourself that they are good, you tell yourself they care about you, too. you do everything for them, you go out of your way to make them happy, you look after them every time they are sad or lonely, and slowly without really knowing it, they start taking you for granted.

they take advantage of your trust and play with your kindness. they make mistakes and are forgiven so the next time onwards they stop thinking too much about how you would feel about what they do because in the end, you will forgive them.

they stop thinking about your feelings, they stop wondering how you are doing, or if what they are doing would hurt you, instead they make it all about themselves, all the while you are keeping calm, not reacting, waiting for them to go back to being the person you cared about, waiting for them to come back to you.

and you won’t even notice it. you won’t even realize how silently you have left their minds, how quietly they have distanced themselves from you, how slowly they have let go of you as they change and become someone you no longer remember, someone you no longer know.

and then one day you will be left behind, in the dark all alone not knowing where you went wrong or what you’ve done.

and no matter how much you cared for them and they cared for you, even good people can hurt you.
