This post reveals more of Charles Spurgeon's compassion for Satan.

This quote is found in Charles Spurgeon's sermon, "Fallen Angels a Lesson to Fallen Men No.  1820.

Spurgeon would have you believe:

(1) Some men are greater sinners than Satan.

(2) Satan might have been tempted.

(3) Satan might not have tempted the other angels to rebel against God.

Spurgeon wrote: "Very likely Satan, the first angel that fell, was not tempted, but just as likely all the others were.

Contrary to Spurgeon's compassion for Satan, the Bible lays the fault squarely on his own prideful heart:

FOR THOU HAST SAID IN THINE HEART I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Isaiah 14:13-14.

Nevertheless, Spurgeon gives place for a tempter of the Tempter!

Spurgeon wrote: "This I do know, that some men are greater sinners than devils."

The Bible clearly contradicts what Spurgeon claimed to know:

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12

Devils, who are spirits with supernatural power, work through men. That is why we do not wrestle against flesh and blood. Rather, we wrestle against principalities, powers, and against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Devils, who fell into sin long before the first man was created, and and have been sinning for thousands of years, are MUCH greater sinners than men.

Man can become possessed with devils, not devils possessed with man!

It was Satan who tempted Eve to commit the first sin, not man!

It is devils who demand human sacrifice, not humans who demand the sacrifice of devils!

It is devils who deceive men with doctrines of devils as they lure them to hell, not men who deceive devils with doctrines of men!

The most evil men as the ones who have even more evil devils working through them!  But even the most wicked man, if the Holy Spirit convinces him of his sin, righteousness and the judgment to come, can repent and be saved. whereas all devils are eternally reprobate in their hatred of God.
